In this first quarter of 2012, several of our surgeon partners are participating in international medical mission trips or education and teaching endeavors:
Dr. Thomas Samuelson is visiting Indonesia with the Orbis Flying Hospital. The program objectives are to teach and train local ophthalmologists while treating medical and surgical eye disorder cases. The ORBIS DC-10 aircraft includes an operating room and classroom specifically for delivering medical education to the eyes of the world.
Dr. David Hardten will be lecturing to ophthalmologists in Singapore on the latest advancements in cataract and refractive surgery.
Dr. Elizabeth Davis will be going to the Ben Tre Province in Vietnam with a group of local optometrists and ophthalmologists through Project Health International. For one week, they will see and treat patients, and perform surgeries, for disorders like cataract, pterygia (non-cancerous growth of eye tissue), as well as various lid conditions.
Dr. Patrick Riedel will be visiting Haiti to perform much-needed eye surgery to local residents.
