Chad Serels, M.D.

Please welcome Chad Serels, M.D. as Minnesota Eye Consultants’ 2024-2025 Cornea Fellow. Dr. Serels brings a rich background in medicine and leadership as an ophthalmology resident from the Cleveland Clinic’s Cole Eye Institute.

Dr. Serels earned his Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in Biology from McGill University, with minors in Economics and World Religions. He went on to receive his medical degree from the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, where he was recognized for his leadership and excellence in clinical care with multiple awards, including induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honors Society. He then completed his Transitional Year Internship at University Hospitals in Richmond Heights, Ohio, where he served as Education Chief Resident, and pursued his Ophthalmology Residency at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic, Cole Eye Institute, where he further honed his skills and expertise in the field.

Throughout his educational journey, Dr. Serels has held various leadership roles, including Co-Director of Respectacle’s Cleveland Chapter and Education Chief Resident at University Hospitals Regional Hospitals. His research contributions have been recognized at prestigious conferences such as the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society and The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Serels has made significant contributions to ophthalmology through his research, which includes studies on immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced orbital inflammation, refractive outcomes post-refractive surgery, and exposure keratopathy in ICU patients. His work has been presented at renowned conferences such as the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).

Dr. Serels calls Westchester New York his hometown. Outside of his professional endeavors, he is an avid hiker, enjoying annual trips to destinations such as Glacier, Banff, Sedona, and Yosemite. He is passionate about spikeball, basketball, volleyball and is currently training for a half marathon. He is also a skilled drummer.

We are excited to have Dr. Chad Serels join our team as the Cornea Fellow and bring his expertise and enthusiasm to Minnesota Eye Consultants.
